I wrote the following on Facebook today.
I was taken aback that Good Morning America, on the 250th birthday of our nation, pretended it was a day for veterans and went sappy. Reports from Pearl Harbor and pablum about soldiers. No Thomas Jefferson, stories about the Declaration of Independence, or reports from the storied locations in Philly. What the hell has happened to our nation!? July 4 is a celebration of an idea, a philosophy about the rights of mankind, and the determination to be free and exercise self-determination. It is not about new cadets in America’s largest job production program.
Within minutes, I received a reply from John Taylor, a man I have known for over 20 years. He is the Bishop of Los Angeles in the Diocese of Los Angeles of the Episcopal Church. Taylor was a chief of staff to former U.S. President Richard Nixon and served as the executive director of the Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace Foundation. Taylor had served as director of the privately owned and funded Richard Nixon Library and Birthplace prior to its joining the federal presidential libraries system and becoming the Richard Nixon Presidential Library.
I really appreciate your observation. One reason is that our national government, devoted to Trump‘s gutter values instead of American values, did no meaningful substantive programming. There was a piece in the paper about how this was just another day at the US National Archives, with a few people wandering around, taking a look at the sacred declaration. Trump doesn’t know what it is, and he doesn’t believe in what it represents. The sheep in his government follow suit. Often the media take their cues on official holidays from official programming. What you saw is the result of the Trump regime’s continued undermining of our republic
