Donald Trump’s Traitorous Deference to Russian President Putin

The news struck at the core of reason, logic, and intentional policymaking.

Donald Trump’s decision to lift sanctions on Russian oil amid global fuel shortages during U.S. military operations against Iran and the Russia-Ukraine war is numbing. The deal will permit Russian President Vladimir Putin’s government to supply 300,000 tons of diesel to the U.S. and the global marketplace.

There is something deeply troubling about the ease with which Trump is accommodating Russian economic needs while Ukraine continues to pay for Putin’s war of aggression with blood. Let me be clear. This war is not a diplomatic puzzle to solve. It is a soulless attack by Russia on a sovereign nation. For Ukrainians, it remains a daily reality measured in funerals, destroyed neighborhoods, and families ripped apart by an invasion they did not choose.

The war did not begin because Ukraine threatened Russia. It began because Russia crossed an internationally recognized border with tanks, missiles, and troops. The aggressor and the victim are not interchangeable, no matter how politically convenient it may be to pretend otherwise.

Trump seems blindly unaware.

What Trump is doing by underpinning the Russian economy is nothing short of treason. Great powers do not preserve peace by teaching dictators that aggression works. How much history did Trump miss in his education? Trump is so ignorant that he is not aware that wars of conquest and aggression come with consequences, not rewards.

The troubling implications are clear to all. If military force becomes an acceptable path to territorial gains, other authoritarian leaders are certain to notice. What is so apparent and so highly troubling is that Trump refuses to accept who started this war. And who continues to suffer because of it. A free nation fighting for its survival deserves more than to become a bargaining chip in someone else’s geopolitical transaction.

Trump bowed and knelt to Putin from his first bid for the White House in 2016. Putin has a controlling hand over Trump that cannot be denied. The fuel deal is the latest evidence of this White House’s treasonous behavior.

History rarely remembers those who urged accommodation with aggressors. It shames those who used deal-making built on victims’ suffering. Such low-brow people never receive a Nobel Peace Prize.

As Ukraine is still burying its dead while Russia is collecting Trump’s dirty money, one thing is clear. Moral clarity left the White House on Inauguration Day 2025.
